A "font" in Provençal means a fountain or sometimes a spring. The commune takes its name from this fountain, "Vieio font" in Provençal, which translates as "old fountain". It still feeds the washhouse which is located a few steps away.

This is a small building constructed in 1150 in the Fontvieille countryside. It housed the commune's first spring.

It was already in use in Roman times and still supplies the wash house located nearby.
