Bar à Fontvieille

Discover the Old Village of Fontvieille, in the narrow streets of which you can still find some troglodyte dwellings bearing witness of the largest stone quarry of the time. Don't hesitate to visit the Abbey Tower, the church or the Vieille Font, as well as the Aqueducts and the Roman Mill of Barbegal.

Situated at the entrance to the Alpilles Regional Nature Park, Fontvieille is fortunate to offer access to numerous hiking tracks.

The village lends its name from a discreet spring situated near the Abbey Tower and which was used during the Roman period. “Font-vieille” is the combination of the word “font” which, in Provençal, means spring or fountain and “vieille”, which means old in French.

Get familiair with  Alphonse Daudet's "Letters From My Windmill", explore the Roman aqueducts of Barbegal, imagine yourself drawing water from the old spring.
