To mark its seasonal reopening, the Château de Montauban - Musée Daudet is staging an exhibition exploring the creation of Daudet's literary works, in particular those illustrated by Luigi Rossi, a highly talented Swiss painter.
The museum is exhibiting around sixty original documents: drawings, watercolours, prints, books, publishing contracts, manuscripts, correspondence and paintings. manuscripts, correspondence and paintings, including a magnificent portrait of Daudet painted by Rossi in 1887. This oil on canvas is being exhibited in France for the first time. Luigi Rossi (1853-1923) was one of Alphonse Daudet's most talented illustrators. Their extraordinary artistic collaboration provides an opportunity to question the place of illustration in literary works at the end of the century.
