Benjamin Stora, born in Constantine, Algeria in 1950, is a historian, Emeritus University Professor, former Inspector General of the French Ministry of Education and former President of the National Museum of the History of Immigration. After arriving in Paris in 1962, he had an exemplary education, culminating in a university thesis on Algerian immigration. Now an internationally renowned researcher, he is the author of some forty books and several television documentaries. Author of a report to the President of the Republic in 2021 on ‘questions of memory relating to colonisation and the Algerian war’, he co-chairs with Mohamed Zghidi the joint commission responsible for the reconciliation of memories between France and Algeria. He has followed this issue with perseverance through the ups and downs of a relationship that continues to be passionate and highly sensitive politically.
