Lecture by Vincent Fernandel, storyteller and former film journalist, on 19 December at 6.30pm.
From Marcel Pagnol to Cédric Jimenez, via Henri Verneuil and Georges Lautner, the French seventh art has always included filmmakers with deep roots in the Midi. As for the Mediterranean basin, it has often attracted cameras from all over the world to film stories rooted in the culture, settings and unique soul of the South.
Why has this region become a character in its own right? How have national and international film-makers seized upon it?
How have so-called ‘southern’ French cinema and a certain type of Italian cinema influenced each other for decades?
Vincent Fernandel, a storyteller and former film journalist, takes the audience on a cinephilic journey through the sun and shadows of the Mediterranean.
