Midnight Mass is the traditional mass that precedes Christmas Day on Christmas Eve.
Midnight Mass is the heart of Provençal Christmas, celebrating this sacred time of year. A living nativity scene, with characters played by local villagers, can be celebrated during the mass.
You will attend the Shepherding Ceremony: in front of the cot, a newborn lamb is brought as an offering by the shepherds. In Provence, shepherds are very important at midnight mass, where they are always the first to bring their gifts. The mass is celebrated in French to the accompaniment of Provençal songs.
Once the ceremony is over, the families return home and enjoy the thirteen desserts.
